Mitigate Package Level Crosstalk Using Tabbed Design

This article's topic is mitigating package-level far-end crosstalk (FEXT) by using tabbed routing. Through analyzing the ratios of microstrip lines capacitive and inductive coupling between with tabbed and without tabbed routing can evaluate the FEXT quickly. The FEXT of microstrip lines with tabbed routing can be improved about 10dB. Then further implement the tabbed routing in “Die to BGA” and “Die to Die” trace connection on package level. In the Die to BGA connection, the FEXT will be limited by the BGA side. For Die to Die connection, the frequency domain and the eye diagram will be improved by the tabs in the parallel bus channel.
