Simulating an Asymmetric Structure with Double Modal Reservation

The article continues research on modal reservation, which is a new approach to the layout and routing of cold redundancy circuits. This approach has proved its efficiency in reducing the impact of broadband interference on radio electronic equipment. This work presents a microstrip structure with a double modal reservation in structures with asymmetric conductors and investigates the influence of such configuration on the time domain characteristics. The analysis of the characteristics of various asymmetry options allowed determining five sets of parameters, under which it is possible to equalize the amplitudes of at least 2 out of 3 pulses. possesses the smallest amplitude before failures because of the approximate equalization of the amplitudes of the three pulses. The analysis of the values of maximum amplitudes after failures for all sets showed that after failures in set 2 the lowest value of the maximum amplitude is achieved, which does not exceed the level of 0.51 V. Maximum amplitude value before failures in Set 2 is 5.93% lower than in Set 1. Therefore, when tracing three-wire printed circuit board structures with modal reservation made of FR-4 material, Set 2 that features a changed width of the central conductor is the most promising. Thus, the obtained results showed that the introduction of conductor asymmetry into a structure with a double modal reservation can improve its characteristics in the time domain.
