A HUD-based Platform for Environmental Sensing and Measurement: Design and Implementation

This paper presents a Heads-up Display (HUD) based Platform for Environmental Sensing and Measurement (PESM), which can provide the user with more environmental parameters (such as short distance measuring, luminance, temperature and environment radiation) while keeping the user aware of the situation ahead. The main contributions of this paper are(1)The design principles and components of the platform are introduced in detail;(2)The design and implementation method of the Power Management Unit (PMU) for the PESM is proposed by using comparison and experiment methods. The DC-DC and LDO hybrid scheme shows its good adaptability;(3)The platform’s performance in actual application scenarios (including road, park riverside and mountain) in daytime and night is demonstrated by combining it with the authentic scene.The paper also discusses some challenges and solutions encountered during the design and testing, as well as the future improvement of the PESM. Finally, the author provides the conclusion of the PESM project.
