Solar Powered Nd3+-Doped Silica Fiber Lasers Of Various Sizes

We studied solar pumped fiber lasers with primary concentrator. A model of solar side-pumped Nd
³⁺
doped silica fiber lasers was developed using photon tracing method. The power distribution, possible losses and the pumping efficiency are estimated using the model. We analyzed the estimated parameters and drew conclution hich have many suggests for improving design of solar pumped fiber lasers. The absorption efficiency of a fiber solar laser with a primary concentrator or sun tracker was calculated to be 0.06% for a 1300 m fiber. The output power of the fiber laser is 171 mW, and the conversion efficiency from sunlight to laser light is calculated to be 0.02%. The developed model allows estimating of the overall efficiency, output power and absorption distribution of Nd
³⁺
fiber lasers with focusing optics, enabling various investigative comparisons. A model was developed for six different types of fibers. The highest 61.39 W photons were absorbed in the fourth fiber and the absorption efficiency was equal to 6.03 %.
