Recovery Strategy for Building a Resilient VLP System

In robustness studies for visible light positioning (VLP) systems, disturbances such as optical power variations or unknown receiver orientation have been considered. However, these investigations do not indicate what happens when unexpectedly significant performance decline or service loss occurs. The resilience idea appears to be a good answer to these difficulties, with recovery capability at its core. This paper proposes a mechanism for recovering from fluctuations in optical power to embrace the recovery attribute. A simulation of a conventional VLP system was carried out. A range free approach and a dead reckoning method are used to combat a decreasing optical power and obstructed transmitter signals. Each approach is chosen based on RSS observations. When using the dead reckoning and centroid approaches, the positioning error is smaller than 0.1(m) and 0.5(m), respectively. This technique addresses the resilience capability in difficult conditions.
