Infrared-Based Non-Invasive Blood Glucose Measurement and Monitoring System

Diabetes is a commonly observed long-term health condition in a significant number of countries worldwide. The most popular technique for measuring glucose levels in the blood is costly invasive and dangerous. It poses significant risk for transmission of infections. On a long-term basis, the invasive approach damages finger tissues. Instead, the noninvasive approach may be used to enable frequent testing and to stop the pain caused by repeated finger pricks. This paper describes the development of a non-invasive, portable device that uses an infrared sensor to measure glucose levels in the blood. The fluctuations in the intensity of near-infrared (NIR) light received by the photodetector as it passes through the fingertip of 54 individuals diagnosed with diabetes (aged 18–70) are utilized to ascertain the glucose concentration in their blood. The measured glucose levels are then displayed on an LCD screen. The proposed system is also capable of communicating via Wi-Fi with an Android application installed on a mobile phone for displaying and saving data. In comparison to the conventional invasive finger-prick method, the proposed system exhibits noteworthy outcomes and a high level of accuracy.
