Electromagnetic Design of High Torque Density 3D Magnetic Circuit Motor for Aviation Propulsion

This paper proposes a novel high torque density three dimensional (3D) magnetic circuit motor for the design requirements of propulsion motors used in multi electric/all electric aircraft (MEA/AEA). The designed 3D magnetic circuit motor has both axial magnetic circuit and radial magnetic circuit. The stator core is comprised of high-performance electric laminations that utilize three different stacking modes. The rotor features an outer rotor spoke structure, while the stator winding adopts toroidal winding. Through 3D finite element simulation, it has been demonstrated that this structure significantly increases the area of magnetic field interaction between the stator and rotor, and improves torque density.
