Design of Unequal Width Stator Teeth Permanent Magnet Motor Based on Actual Winding Factor

This paper investigates a novel stator structure with unequal teeth and single-layer winding based on a 12-slot 10-pole IPMSM. The unequal teeth width structure improves the pitch factor therefore the fundamental amplitude of EMF and the average torque increase. This paper proposed an FEA method to determine the actual pitch factor under different load conditions. The effects of several parameters are investigated, and an optimal combination is selected. The optimized motor exhibits a higher torque density under rated load conditions. The experiment results on the prototype motor are consistent with theoretical analysis and simulation.
