Research on the Application of Open-End Winding PMSM in Renewable Energy System

This paper studies the application of open-end winding permanent-magnet synchronous machine (OW-PMSM) in renewable energy system. By adjusting the weight of the voltage references of dual inverters in OW-PMSM drive, flexible power flow between microgrid and energy storage is achieved. In this case, the PMSM can be a load motor or a generator. In another application case, OW-PMSM can be adopted in flywheel energy storage system (FESS) for renewable generation. Flexible power delivery is fulfilled among machine, power generation device and grid through the control of OWPMSM. In both the two applications, the impact of fluctuating renewable generation on grid stability can be eliminated by fully utilizing the OW-PMSM.
