Evaluation and Suppression of Windage Loss for High-Speed Flux-Switching Permanent Magnet Machine

In this paper, the issue of large windage loss caused by the salient pole gear rotor of the flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machines during high-speed rotation is investigated. Firstly, based on the hydrodynamics method, an analytical model for windage loss of a FSPM machine rotor considering the effect of rotor tooth and slots is established. Secondly, the sensitive factors affecting windage loss, such as stator slot shape and rotor outer frame size and shape, are analyzed to determine the impact of each factor on windage loss. The sensitive factors affecting windage loss have been classified, and the targeted suppression methods for windage loss have been proposed, the computational fluid dynamics finite element method is used for validation. Finally, different stator and rotor structures are fabricated and a prototype testing platform is built, and the separation experiments of w indage loss are conducted. The feasibility and correctness of the suppression method for windage loss have been validated.
