Effect of the Number of Rotor Virtual Slots on Electromagnetic Force in Interior PMSMs for EVs

Given the complex rotor structure and difficulties of optimizing the design of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors for electric vehicles, this paper describes an analytical method for calculating the electromagnetic force. It is based on considering the influence of the position rotor virtual slots on air gap permeability to calculate the airgap flux density and then the electromagnetic force. The effect of the position and number of rotor virtual slots on the electromagnetic force of IPMSMs is summarized. Taking two 8-pole 48-slot IPMSMs as examples, the finite element method is applied to calculate its electromagnetic performance and electromagnetic force to verify the analytical method which provides theoretical support for the electromagnetic force reduction of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor.
