Characteristics and Reduction of the Magnet Eddy Current Loss of an FSCW Spoke-type PMSM

This paper analyzed the eddy current loss (ECL) characteristic within the magnets of permanent magnet synchronous machines(PMSMs). A spoke-type PMSM with fractional slot concentrated winding (FSCW). The generation mechanisms of the PM ECL are first analyzed from the perspective of flux density harmonics based on the finite element (FE) method. The minimum calculation period of the ECL is analytically determined. The optimal magnet segmentation configuration is explored. It is shown that segmenting the magnets into uniform pieces will yield to a discent low ECL value dispite the nonuniform variation of flux linkage.
