Design and Simulation Analysis of Oil Cooling System for Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Motors

Axial flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) have the characteristics of small size, compact structure, high power density, etc. Therefore, it brings serious problems of loss, temperature rise and heat dissipation, and the design of its cooling system has become an indispensable link in the process of motor design. This paper takes the axial flux dual-rotor permanent magnet motor as the research object. First, according to its heat generation characteristics, a stator oil injection cooling structure is proposed. Secondly, the three-dimensional finite element model of this cooling system is simulated and analyzed based on CFD software using the VOF model, and the thermal performance is compared with that of the conventional case water cooling. Finally, the effects of the number of oil injection holes, the diameter of oil injection holes, and the distance between windings on the cooling performance in the oil injection cooling structure are analyzed, the parameters of the cooling structure are determined, and the temperature distribution of the motor before and after optimization is comparatively analyzed. The simulation results show that the oil injection cooling structure can effectively improve the heat dissipation of the motor.
