Optimal Design of Direct-Drive PMSG Considering Annual Wind Speed Variation

This paper is to optimize the PMSG considering the annual speed variation. Firstly, the one-year wind speed data is processed to obtain equivalent wind speeds. The efficiency models of wind turbines under different wind speeds are established and the key structure parameters of permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) are optimized. Finally, the optimization results are verified by finite element analysis (FEA). The results show that the overall efficiency of the PMSG after optimized is 0.83% higher than the original motor. It indicates that the proposed design method is effective for improving the overall efficiency of PMSG under different operating conditions.
