Principle and Analysis of Double Rotor Permanent Magnet Motor with Stator Modularization

This study proposes and designs a new double rotor permanent magnet (PM) motor (DRPM) with stator modularization for high-performance applications. Firstly, the topology of the DRPM with stator modularization is introduced, and the operating principle is analyzed. Then, the power size equation proves the high performance of the machine. After that, the electromagnetic performance of the newly designed DRPM with stator modularization is analyzed based on the finite-element method, including the field distribution, 3-phase flux-linkage, 3-phase back-electromotive force, as well as cogging torque. The results show that the proposed motor retains the merits of switched-flux PM machines and possesses the utilization rate of PM.
