Portable Calibration Device for X-ray Detector Array

A portable device for calibrating an array of X-ray detectors has been developed. It uses a handheld X-ray generator operated remotely to reduce personnel radiation exposure. A rotating-wheel cassette consisting of ten slots are deployed for loading metal filters. The initial test observed cross talk between the detector under test and the neighboring detectors owing to photon scattering. Geant4 simulations show that by adding a tungsten collimator at the exit of the generator and a tungsten barrel below the cassette would substantially reduce cross talk arisen from photon scattering. A revision of the device is in progress.
