Monitoring of Vegetation and Water Quality with MONSUN Micro-AUV Swarms

This paper presents a concept and first experimental results for using MONSUN micro autonomous underwater vehicle (micro-AUV) swarms developed at the University of Lübeck for environmental monitoring. Besides physical/chemical parameters the macrophyte vegetation is evaluated to judge the water quality. The MONSUN sensor configuration and navigation strategies used for taking images of macrophytes are presented and the recognition pipeline for their automatic evaluation by AI methods is described.
