A Design on Rotor Flux Barrier for Line Start Synchronous Reluctance Motor for Enhancing Efficiency

In response to the growing demand in EV’s and industries for energy-efficient and eco-friendly solutions, the Line Start Synchronous Reluctance Motor (LSSRM/LS-SynRM) has emerged as a compelling candidate to fulfill these requirements. It is an innovative electric motor that combines the advantageous characteristics of synchronous motors and induction motors. Also, high efficiency compared to existing induction motors and permanent magnet motors. However, modern industrial drive applications need high power factor and efficiency, but LS-SynRM has produced less power factor and efficiency due to improper rotor structure effects the saliency characteristics. Therefore, this paper proposed four rotor flux barriers with optimized geometry to improve the performance of the motor. In addition, different types of rotor flux barrier with increasing flux barrier are discussed. This topology is developed and validated through the Ansys electronics suite. The simulation results analyze flux distribution, magnetic flux linkage, inductance profile, torque, and power. This suggests that the proposed model achieved maximum efficiency of 96.90 % and is suitable for industrial applications.
