Development of Novel Axial Bearingless FSPM Using Double Stator for Pump Applications

The Bearingless Flux-Switching Permanent Magnet (BFSPM) motor offers several advantages for pump applications due to its robust rotor, simple structure, and effective heat dissipation. While current studies mainly concentrate on radial and linear topologies, the axial topology is better suited for constraint volume and high-power density applications, such as left ventricular assist devices. However, there has been limited research conducted on this aspect. This paper introduces a novel BFSPM motor using an axial topology for pump applications. The proposed Axial-Bearingless Flux Switching Permanent Magnet (Axial-BFSPM) motor features a double stator core, 12 slots, and 10 poles. Torque and force are generated using
$\boldsymbol{q}-\mathbf{axis}$
and
$\boldsymbol{d}-\mathbf{axis}$
currents, respectively. Analysis results demonstrated that the force produced could suspend the rotor and the power density of
$\mathbf{1.22}\ \mathbf{kW}/\mathbf{dm^{3}}$
. Also, d-axis currents have a significant influence on torque production. The proposed model is validated using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) conducted through JMAG Designer, providing valuable insights for subsequent development.
