Study on the Technology of Ultraviolet Laser Cleaning Ship Surface Paint Layer

An Eco-friendly ultraviolet (UV) laser is employed in removing paint layer from the marine ship surface. A tailored photothermal and photochemical model based on ultraviolet laser cleaning ship surface paint layer has been innovatively presented. In this paper, we elaborate the photothermal and photochemical mechanisms are the main interacting mechanism during laser cleaning and acquire the UV laser cleaning conditions for attachment detachment. According to the UV laser interaction with materials, the physical process of UV laser cleaning has been analyzed in detail. To verify the correctness of the model, we carry out verification from three aspects: temperature, surface topography, and surface element content. It is witnessed that UV laser is the joint action of photothermal and photochemical to clean the paint layer on the ship surface. In a word, this study not only provides significant insights into the mechanism and theoretical model of UV laser cleaning ship surface paint but also provides a novel method for surface decontamination in the marine industry.
