Calibration Method for Phase Consistency of Hydrophone Array Based on PSO-SA

In the process of hydrophone array fabrication, there is some phase deviation inevitably between the receiving elements, due to the difference in manufacturing process and hardware, which is called phase inconsistency. The phase inconsistency can cause serious interference to the property of the array signal processing. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of array system, it is particularly important to study the phase consistency calibration algorithm after array formation. In this paper, the particle swarm optimization based on the simulated annealing (PSO-SA) is applied to the phase consistency calibration, and the corresponding phase consistency intelligent matching search algorithm is formed. This calibration method is applicable to any linear or planar array needed to measure additional phase-shifting value between elements. Also, the simulation results of a linear array has been given. It is shown that the matching algorithm can accurately search the phase error between the array elements. And the actual calibration test of an irregular shape array is carried out, the measurement data of radiation sound pressure has been processed and analyzed to verify the performance improvement of the phase compensation for beam-forming.
