Production of Biogas and Biofertilizer for Sustainable Cities and Agriculture

This research presents a different scenario for the use of bioenergy to get sustainable cities and agriculture, based on some strategies to increase the use the biomass. Previously, was published a circular economy model based on a conceptual design of a biorefinery using biomass recycled from municipal solid waste to produce biofertilizer, and biogas by anaerobic digestion. Also, are presented two prototypes of biodigesters have been developed for a medium and home scale. Besides, were developed and optimized a hybrid biogas engine (8.6kWe) for electrical energy generation. Then, it is presented a conceptual design to scale the engine to 40 kWe, according to some research published by the author using strategies to avoid the knocking phenomenon to rise output power for biogas. The global results of the research are intended to present a theory to highlight the biogas energy, based on two own methodologies to estimate energy quality and exergy for gaseous fuels. The result of this conference paper seeks to demonstrate the growth potential of bioenergy, initially with the calculations for South America, but with the global purpose of promoting the production of biogas and biofertilizer as part of the circular economy model for biomass.
