Review of Offshore Wind Power Reliability Analysis and Assessment

Offshore wind power has seen rapid development in recent years, incidents such as power shortages and major blackouts due to offshore wind power failures emerged as well. It is of great significance to concern the reliability of offshore wind power to promote its sustainable development. This paper investigated the key offshore wind power components that cause failure shutdowns and power shortages through reliability statistics and analysis, as well as offshore wind power system reliability modelling, assessment and calculation methods to improve its planning and operation levels. Besides, impacts of topology of collection and transmission system on reliability are analyzed. Finally, system and component reliability improving methods are summarized, and insights into reliability assessment techniques are given, hoping those findings can give reference to the offshore wind power development and planning.
