Design Validation and Regulation of Boost Converter: A Bond graph Approach

This paper discusses the design of the closed-loop regulation of a boost converter operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM). A simpler method for the design of boost converters that satisfies design specifications is proposed. The voltage mode PID controller aims to achieve output regulation. The equivalent bond graph model is provided for design validation, which also aids design engineers from other areas for multidisciplinary, large-scale applications. Modulated transformer combined with resistive element (MTF-R) approach is used to mimic the DC-DC boost converter switches. For design verification, the Multisim software is utilized. MATLAB® is applied for the design of regulation controllers, whereas 20sim® is used to compare the proposed bond graph with MATLAB® outputs. The results indicate that the proposed MTF-R-based bond graph can be utilized as an alternative for a comprehensive analysis of boost converters.
