Cube-Shaped Inorganic Perovskite Bismuth Ferrite Nanostructures as Highly Efficient Hydrogen Gas Sensors

Hydrogen gas sensing is essential for safety and efficiency in industrial and environmental applications. In this study, we investigated the hydrogen gas sensors of cubic inorganic perovskite bismuth ferrite (BFO) nanoparticles. Well-defined BFO nanoparticles with good crystallinity and distinct cube shapes were produced using hydrothermal synthesis. Sensors showed a strong response, increasing 5 times from the baseline at 1000 ppm hydrogen gas. At 50 ppm, the response was 1.84 times higher than baseline. The optimal temperature is 200°C. Sensor performance was tested from 150°C to 275°C with 250 ppm hydrogen gas. The sensor is highly sensitive to hydrogen gas and reacts strongly, similar to gases with a concentration of 250 ppm. The sensor's response mechanism to hydrogen gas exposure was elucidated, providing vital insights into its behavior. This study improves hydrogen gas sensing technology for more reliable systems.
