An Android Based Portable Biosensor System for Cardiac Risk-Stratification by Detecting HFABP in Human Plasma

In this work, we demonstrate an android application-based portable biosensor system built on a field-effect based interdigitated micro-electrode biosensing chip fabricated over a low-cost PCB substrate. The whole system consists of a biosensor chip-simultaneously able to analyze three samples, a portable USB powered readout board and an android application oriented towards risk-stratification of human heart-health based on the concentrations of cardiac-specific early-release biomarker HFABP in plasma matrix. The electrical transduction is realized by a novel composite nanostructured material graphite-ZnO (GF-ZnO), synthesized using hydrothermal method. The biosensor is able to detect the target biomarker in a wide dynamic range of concentrations from fg/mL to ng/mL in very low sample volume (∼1 micro liters), and in a time-efficient manner, sample to result time being just 20 minutes. We believe that such a system has an immense potential for point-of-care applications in near future by extensive experimentation with the clinical samples and data analyses.
