Performance of an asphalt concrete mixture with fine aggregates from the steel industry

The use of industrial waste is a challenge in pavement engineering. This work analyzed in the laboratory the incorporation of fine recycled aggregates from the steel industry (SA) in the performance of a hot asphalt mixture MDC used for pavements. To this end, two asphalt mixtures designs were made with natural aggregates (NA) and with conventional AC 60/70 asphalt and modified with recycled rubber earrings (GCR). Subsequently, the incorporation of the fine fraction of NA by AS was carried out. The incorporated fraction corresponds to 20% of the total mass of the AN. Indirect tensile strength tests were performed in dry and humid conditions, respectively, in order to know water susceptibility. The results show that the use of SA in asphalt mixtures for pavements is viable. However, additional tests and test sections should be carried out under real conditions for implementation in road infrastructure works.
