Analysis of scenarios for repowering wind farms – a case of study for Uruguay

In Uruguay, wind capacity forms a significant part of the country's energy matrix; most of the wind turbines that are currently operating were installed between 2014 and 2017, a time in which the technology for wind generation has evolved significantly, so it is analyzed how viable it is to continue operating with old wind turbines. In this study, the energy evaluation is carried out for the possible replacement of wind turbines in two wind farms in Uruguay, Park A, installed less than ten years ago, and Park B, installed more than ten years ago.For this, a study of the energy currently generated by these parks is carried out, and of the energy that could be generated after the repowering of these parks, or their replacement, maintaining the total energy of the park.The results show that in Park B, it would be convenient to carry out an in-depth economic and technical study that raises the total repowering of this park.The same results were not obtained in Park A, because its turbines are still operating satisfactorily, and its technology has not yet aged.
