Compact Dual-Band (28/38 GHz) Antenna for Next Generations Communications

In modern communication systems that work in the millimeter-wave range, dual-band operation is badly needed. The frequencies of 28 and 38 GHz are of main concern for operation in this frequency range. Hence, this paper presents a dual-band antenna design that works at these two frequencies. The presented antenna has a main element and a parasitic element. The main element is a patch that is fed through a microstrip line. The type of feed for that element is inset feed. On the other hand, the second element is a parasitic element. This element is capacitively coupled to the main element. A parametric study has been adopted to achieve impedance matching at both frequencies of interest. Symmetric bandwidths of 0.6 GHz are achieved around both frequencies of interest. For validation of the designed antenna, it has been fabricated, and its performance has been measured. Both simulation and measurement results ensure agreement.
