Antibacterial Activity of Ag, Au and Au/Ag Alloy Nanoparticles Embedded in Glass

Surface contamination is the major public health burden, therefore, the development of non-toxic antimicrobial materials is in focus. In this work, we provide a comparative study of the antibacterial activity of glasses that contain gold-silver alloy nanoparticles of governed composition and gold and silver monometallic nanoparticles. We reveal that the antibacterial activity of the glass with nanoparticles against the gram-negative bacteria E. coli depends on the proportion of silver in the nanoparticles: the higher the silver proportion, the greater the bactericidal effect.
