Exploring the Effect of Ground Plane on Android Devices GNSS Positioning Performance in Urban Area

Smartphone, as a device integrating communication and navigation, plays an important role in urban pedestrian travel scenarios. In this study, we use the SPP (single-point positioning) method to analyze the short-time horizontal positioning accuracy of the Huawei P30 and Oppo Reno5pro smartphones for three typical urban scenarios, focusing on the impact of the ground plane on positioning accuracy, since the ground plane is assumed to effectively reduce the multipath errors. The experimental results show that applying the ground plane can effectively improve positioning accuracy. Therefore, using the ground plane is an effective way to improve data quality when using smartphones to collect data.
