Developing Wind Farm SCADA Physical Testbed System

The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) wind farm testbed is a physical environment designed to test and evaluate the security by design and the configuration of a wind farm setting. The physical testbed allows security researchers and engineers to test SCADA systems under various conditions and configurations. The testbed can also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of different mitigation controls for optimizing the security posture of the wind farm. Given the crucial role SCADA systems play in maintaining critical infrastructure, any security breaches can have severe consequences. To address this, it is necessary to have a test environment to identify vulnerabilities and test potential security solutions. This paper introduces the development steps and the components of a SCADA testbed for this purpose. The results of these tests can help improve the design and security operations of SCADA systems for wind farms, leading to increased resilience and reduced attack surface.
