Optimization of Temporary Storage in Cross Docking Facilities: A Mathematical Model

The paper presents the deterministic model for optimizing temporary storage in a cross docking facility. The model has taken in consideration various factors such as the storage capacity, flow of goods, handling time, and delivery time to minimize the storage cost and improve transportation efficiency. The implementation of the model, including data collection and analysis and model validation has been presented. The optimal solution provide the allocation of goods to storage locations, the sequencing of orders, and the duration of storage that minimizes the total cost of temporary storage while satisfying the constraints and meeting the objective function. The solution can then be used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of cross docking operations, reduce transportation costs, and improve customer service. The results shows the effectiveness of the model in optimizing temporary storage in a cross docking facility.
