Point and Interval Frequensy Estimation in the Non-Coherent Sampling by Separate Analysis of Fourier Transform Components

This paper presents an approach for point and interval frequency estimation based on applying of a criterion for the assessment of level of spectral leakage for the analyzed signal. The unknown frequency is estimated by the repetitive calculations of Fourier transform components for various duration of the analyzed signal till the moment when the proposed criterion does not indicate the lowest level of spectral leakage. The presented approach is developed both for the cases of coherent and non-coherent sampling. In the case of the coherent sampling the unknown frequency is estimated based on zero values of the distinguished characteristic elements of the sidelobes, which indicate absence of spectral leakage. In the non-coherent sampling the unknown frequency is estimated by establishing the boundaries of frequency interval with the exact frequency of the analyzed signal with further applying of weight coefficients determined by the values of the proposed criterion, indicating the level of spectral leakage.
