Design of a Metamaterial Integrated Dual-Band Antenna for S-Band and C-Band Applications

This work presents a metamaterial (MTM) integrated dual-band antenna. A closed ring resonator (CRR) and an I-shaped metamaterial cell make up the dual-band antenna. The outer CRR attains the 4.02 GHz C-band (4-8 GHz) resonance, which has a bandwidth of 1.89 GHz from 3.58 GHz to 5.47 GHz. The I-shaped MTM cell shows negative permittivity, negative permeability, and negative refractive index from 2.1 to 2.98 GHz. The MTM cell is responsible for the resonance frequency of 3.198 GHz with a bandwidth of 27 MHz in the 3.173 GHz to 3.2 GHz region. The antenna has a percentage bandwidth of 10.9% for the S-band (2-4 GHz) and 47.01% for the C-band, respectively. The antenna has a size of 25×25×0.8 mm

. The suggested antenna has gains of 2.1785 dBi and 3.637 dBi at the low and high resonance frequencies respectively. An omnidirectional radiation pattern is achieved also. Therefore, the suggested antenna may be a good fit for S-band and C-band applications.
