Full material constants of alternating current poled PMN-0.3PbTiO3 single crystals grown by the continuous feeding Bridgman process

Recently, a new and effective technology to enhance piezoelectric properties using alternating current poling (ACP), instead of conventional direct current poling (DCP), for Pb(Mg
1/3
Nb
2/3
)O
3
- PbTiO
3
(PMN-PT) single crystals (SCs) has attracted many researchers’ interest. Full material constants of DCP and ACP binary system of [001] 0.7PMN-0.3PT SCs grown by the continuous feeding Bridgman (CF-BM) process were investigated in this paper. Compared to the DCP method, the CF-BM PMN-PT SCs by ACP method showed the higher properties of free dielectric constant (${\varepsilon _{33}}^{\text{T}}/{\varepsilon _0}$, 11200), clamped dielectric constant (${\varepsilon _{33}}^{\text{S}}/{\varepsilon _0}$, 1150), and piezoelectric constant (d
33
, 3180 pC/N), at 25°C, which are 82%, 37%, and 94% higher than those of DCP SCs, respectively. These full material constants of the ACP PMN-PT SCs grown by the CF-BM process are very useful for designs of advanced ultrasonic transducers for medical and undersea detection devices with broad bandwidth and high sensitivity.
