Fault Diagnosis of Power System Component by Wavelet Analysis of Current Signals

Power transmission network is any nation's most intricate and critical component in its energy infrastructure. Overhead transmission lines are prone to faults being exposed to the atmospheric conditions. Maintaining the power system's operational stability and reliability depends heavily on the accurate detection and diagnosis of the fault's nature. The paper presents a wavelet transform tool used in MATLAB to identify and classify the faults by extracting the characteristics of current signals. Presented simulation results of 33 kV transmission line reveals that the fault analysis approach is fairly accurate but struggles due to system dependent threshold limitations.
