Optimization of Parameters for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Communications

The altitude at which an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is deployed has a great impact on the coverage range and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in 5G communication systems. The optimum value for height of UAV and sum of SNRs are found using the proposed algorithms. In this paper, the obtained results show that, with the increase in UAV altitude there will be an increase in path loss of the signal which leads to a lower SNR. However, a higher altitude may provide a better line of sight to the ground user and reduce the impact of obstacles which results in improved communication performance. This paper also gives valuable insights about the effects of height variation in UAV communications which helps in the design of 5G communication systems using UAVs.
