Comparison of Quantum-Digital to Thermal Method in AC Voltage Measurements

The latest generation of high-performance digital converters (digitizers) requires more functional and accurate systems for their testing than existing thermal converter-based alternating voltage metrology can provide. The latest research shows that this problem can be solved by applying Josephson quantum voltage standards. This was the reason that TUBİTAK UME, the National Metrology Institute of Turkey, launched a program that includes; defining the digitizer calibration methodology using Josephson's voltage standards, expanding the measurement range by constructing and applying new voltage dividers, evaluating the measurement uncertainty as well as validating the new method by comparing it with the existing thermal method which is presented in this paper. First, the digitizer was calibrated using the new digital-quantum approach and later compared with the thermal method in measuring AC voltage. The results of the comparison show that these two techniques give very close results in the considered range, promising that the proposed quantum-digital method with a possible extension of the measurement range can be the basis for new traceability of AC voltage.
