Supervisory Control of the Sigfox Low Power Wide Area Network Technology

In the present paper, a model of the Sigfox technology, belonging to Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN), is represented in the form of a discrete event system (DES) form. A desired behavior of this technology is introduced and expressed in the form of a rule, setting an upper bound to the possible successive timeouts of Sigfox. This way the power usage is limited. The desired behavior is translated to a regular language, being parametric with respect the number of successive time outs. The supervisor automaton, realizing the desired language, is developed. The performance of the controlled automaton is determined and the nonblocking property of the controlled automaton is proved. Simulations validate the proposed results.
