Simulation Analysis of Power Transformer Internal Short Circuit for Magnetic Flux Leakage Distribution Feature Extraction

Power transformers are among the most critical equipment in power systems. The lack of protection of power equipment such as transformers in relay protection methods. The electromagnetic field as one of the physical fields inside the transformer can respond to its fault condition in a timely and effective manner. This paper is mainly devoted to the research on the extraction of leakage field features for the transformer fault detection and identification. Firstly, the three-phase transformer is studied and the three-dimensional multi-physics field simulation of the internal structure of the transformer is carried out by finite element software. Then, a variety of short-circuit conditions and fault locations were set up, and their leakage distributions were analyzed and compared. Finally, it is discovered that the leaking of magnetic flux is minimal close to the fault spot, the leakage field feature extraction method may be used to identify the size and location of winding faults. This approach will be helpful for more accurate and sensitive detection of the internal fault condition of the transformer.
