ZigBee Wireless Sensor Network-based Irrigation System for Small-Scale Farm Field

Managing water resources for agricultural purposes is becoming increasingly complex due to the scarcity of fresh water on a global scale. Therefore, the wireless sensor network (WSN) has been used to monitor the fields and gather information about conditions such as soil moisture and weather conditions. This research aims to design and implement a WSN for water management irrigation systems in small-scale farm fields. The system consists of five nodes. One coordinator node and four sensor nodes. Each sensor node consists of soil moisture, air temperature, and humidity sensors to monitor the conditions in the agriculture field. An Arduino Nano ATmega328P microcontroller processes the data from these sensors and sends it via XBee S2C to the coordinator node to be monitored by the laptop for the control opening or closing of the water pump. Moreover, the data is stored on the laptop for later use in smart irrigation systems based on the artificial intelligence algorithm.
