Multimode Bipolar Hybrid Asymmetrical Dual Active Bridge Converter for Bipolar DC System

A bipolar hybrid asymmetrical dual active bridge (BiHADAB) converter is proposed in this paper. The BiHADAB converter can reconfigure and operate in the quasi-parallel or series modes by rearranging the switching pattern. Power transfer and current stress of the converter with the two modes are analyzed. It is revealed that the converter can achieve higher power transfer capability with the quasi-parallel mode. In light-load cases, the current stress can be lower if the converter switch to the series mode. Theoretical analysis is verified with simulation and experiment.
