Modeling and Simulation for Microgrids with Distributed Energy Resources of Low-Carbon Parks

Developing low-carbon parks is one of the promising ways to promote the green and low-carbon transformation of energy consumption. Microgrids (MGs), as one of the important components of low-carbon parks, have received increasing attention due to their capability to integrate the high penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) and deal with their intermittent characteristics. With the increasing proportion of renewable energy and power electronic equipment, the modeling, dynamic feature analysis, and control strategy design of MGs is essential for their stable operation. Modeling is the foundation for stability analysis and controller design. However, the existing power system software, with some disadvantages such as difficulty in modeling and lack of flexibility, is unsuitable for the MGs characterized by a high proportion of renewable energy and power electronic equipment. This paper proposes a method to model the low-carbon park MGs with a structure retention model using MATLAB/Simulink. This method uses the custom module Matlab Fcn to build the low-carbon park MG power network model. Besides, dynamic elements, such as DERs, are modeled using the basic components based on differential-algebraic equations. Therefore, the proposed method can conveniently simulate the low-carbon park MGs with DERs and easily add modules and design controllers for the MGs. Finally, numerical simulations on an IEEE 34-bus distributed system in secondary frequency regulation demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the proposed method in the modeling and simulation for the low-carbon park MGs.
