Radio Resource Splitting for CoMP Transmissions in Cellular Deployments

This paper presents a concept for radio resource splitting between multi point transmissions (MPT) and single point transmissions (SPT) in CoMP scenarios. Within a transmission point (TP) cluster, all associated users are subdivided into groups for MPT and SPT depending on their radio channel conditions. The groups are scheduled independently in order to alleviate requirements regarding the channel estimation for radio resources from multiple TPs. The advantage is that in such a case channel estimation for MPT has to be performed only on a limited set of resources. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by means of stochastic simulations of an exemplary deployment scenario. The results show that the proposed concept provides reasonable performance gains in scenarios comprising both MPT and SPT.
