Design of High-Power S-Band Pulsed Magnetron for Linear Accelerator System

This paper deals with design of a high-power S-band pulse magnetron capable of generating average and peak powers of 4 kW and 4 MW at an operating frequency of 2.998±0.005 GHz. The 16 vanes hole and slot type anode structure is considered for design, in which 3D PIC simulation is used for computation of output parameters, whereas ANSYS workbench is used for thermal analysis. The study shows that the resonating frequency depends on the strap dimensions, strap depth, and height. The temperature distribution on the helix-shaped heater, cathode surface, and anode are analyzed from the thermal analysis.
