Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) Information Technology System Design : A Literature Review

Disruption in information technology is reaching in many industries including banking & financial sectors. Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is another level of disruptions within financial currency comes as an official digital currency backed by the government of a country. This paper mainly focused within CBDC system design from the perspective of information technology (IT) aspect based on its literature review. The study showed that academic references are still lacking in the aspect of CBDC system design and even more from IT perspective. The lack of framework, methodology, or an architecture references of CBDC system design are reflected by the number of variance and trials that has been done for a CBDC around the world while lacking to the performance evaluation and verification method. The result of this study is expected to be an initial reference for the future development and research of CBDC system design with the focus in the information technology perspective.
