Sensitive Detection of Chinese Traditional Medicine Analytes by Combining THz with Metamaterial

Terahertz metamaterial have the characteristics of non-ionizing radiation, and are sensitive to weak resonance, so they have excellent performance in biosensor applications. A planar array Ω-shaped ring lies on the surface of a high-resistivity silicon substrate is proposed to address the current need for improving the sensitivity of terahertz band biosensors. This sensor is highly sensitive to the biological samples to be tested attached to its surface. The simulation results show that the sensitivity of the flexible metamaterial biosensor can reach 670 GHz/RIU, and the quality factor can reach 3.6. It can detect artemisinin, the active ingredient of the Chinese herb Artemisia annua and has important application value in the design of terahertz ultra-sensitive biomedical sensors.
