Solving the Classification Problem for Setting the Relay Protection Response Characteristics

The problem of determining the response characteristics of relay protection is considered as a one-class classification problem. To solve it, an auxiliary class is introduced, as a result the problem becomes solvable as a two-class classification problem for the monitored and alternative modes. The response characteristics are constructed by training a linear classifier, so the resulting characteristics are parametric. At the same time, restrictions are imposed on the learning process of the classifier, related to the fulfillment of the requirements of selectivity and maximum sensitivity of protection. By the example of building the response characteristics of the long-range protection (LRP), three cases of using the auxiliary class are considered.
