Influence of the Wind Speed Amplitude on the Energy Captured by a Wind Turbine Operating at Time-Varying Wind Speeds

This paper analyzes the influence of the changing amplitude of wind speed on the energy captured from the wind by a wind turbine. The variations, over time, of the captured wind energy values at several values for the mechanical angular velocity and the wind speed amplitude are analyzed for a case study related to a wind park located on the Romanian Black Sea coast, Dobrogea. The obtained results demonstrate the significant differences that occur between the expected transformation related to the theoretical power characteristics of the wind turbine and the operation in real-time conditions under significant wind speed variations.
